I recently read Neal Stephenson's book Cryptonomicon which features a cipher called solitaire. After trying it out and writing a C programme to encipher and decipher text using the solitaire cipher, and at the request of my four children, I prepared a series of solitaire clues for them on Easter Sunday 2013, leading them to their hidden basket of eggs. They each spent a good portion of that day with a deck of cards successively decoding each clue and searching for the next before ultimately reaching their well deserved reward.
Here are the instructions I handed to each of them them. (Microsoft Word format).
